HOW THERAPY WORKS

I offer individually tailored, brief and long-term treatments, using Psychodynamic approach and Cognitive-behavioural approach.

Sessions will take place once or twice a week on the same day each week and at the same time. Each session will last 50 minutes. The first consultation will focus on getting to know each other and understanding together the nature of your problems and the areas that you want to work on. After the few initial consultations we would decide on the approach most helpful in your particular predicament. The duration of the therapy varies, depending on your individual needs and expectations. You may want just a few sessions to reflect on what is going on in your life or a longer period of time in order to work through present and past experiences and relationships. In the eventuality my services would not be appropriate, I will recommend more suitable ways of getting professional help.

Therapy is a safe space where certain issues and concerns may be shared for the first time. All contact throughout therapy remains confidential, including the fact that you are in therapy.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy enables an individual to get insight into dysfunctional and repetitive ways of engaging with others and the wider world. The therapeutic relationship would allow you to understand better your feelings, thoughts, internal conflicts, patterns of reactions to the world, and your behaviour. As a result, you might experience a sense of liberation from old patterns of behaviour, and be empowered to make important changes in your relationships and career.

The therapeutic space would enable you to discuss your life and face anything that is particularly painful, difficult, confusing, shameful or uncomfortable. It might help you to make sense of what you are going through. A safe and empathetic relationship with the therapist leads to self-growth and a sense of acceptance. The fact that the therapist can look at things from a distance will create a unique opportunity to explore your difficulties in a confidential place without feelings of shame. As you will inevitably bring up painful feelings and memories, you may go through a period of feeling worse than when you began therapy. However, therapy should allow you to create more robust ways of emotional functioning, and you will feel better in the long-run.

Cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy focuses on learning the techniques to manage better anxiety and low mood. This is a change-focused treatment that can help you to make tangible changes in your day-to-day life and establish healthier habits. It is a very successful approach for instance in managing symptoms of anxiety: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, panic attacks and excessive worries.

Getting to the root of the problem by The American Psychoanalytic Association

Psychodynamic therapy is a type of talk therapy that aims to explore beneath the surface, the unconscious drives for our emotions and behaviours. This video uses the metaphor of a tree and its roots to explain how past experiences and traumas can impact the health of the tree, both on the surface and underground. Working with a gardener can help get to the root of the problem.

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work? (CBT) by PsychHub

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a treatment option for people struggling with anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, health anxiety, social anxiety, low self-esteem, anger management issues. It is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, and that leads to the tangible changes.
